I'm wearing pampas here- street outreach in Hollywood. I asked random pedestrians if they could tell the difference between real feathers and faux. 9 out of 10 people thought a real ostrich plume was artificial. These people were surprised that plumes come from a slaughtered one year old ostrich.

Peacock farms are scattered all over China. When you purchase affordable feathers from Alibaba, Temu, Shein, Aliexpress etc, they came from farms that exploit birds.

If you buy peacock feathers, chances are that they were sourced from a farm in China. Even though peacocks molt their feathers twice a year, stores sell feathers from farmed and slaughtered birds, not molting birds in the wild. Molted feathers are rarely in selling conditions.
