Can anyone help me understand what this means in reality?

@danneidle.bsky.social, you’re a sensible nonpartisan voice🙏🏼

He is already resident in Switzerland and has property in Dubai and is buying up more development land there.

In what way is he NOW “quitting” the UK and why?
November 23, 2025 at 8:46 AM
I assumed that was because even they couldn’t bring themselves to use the term “Christmas range” in a piece suggesting Tesco was somehow getting rid of Christmas 😂😂
November 20, 2025 at 1:57 PM
Ok, that made me laugh! 😂
November 19, 2025 at 10:07 PM
And in a surprise to absolutely no one…

Allison Pearson’s column today! 🙄
November 19, 2025 at 10:32 AM
And to the “Tesco are getting rid of Christmas cake” comments…

Same reasoning applies👍🏼

They make many different versions of Christmas cake - fully iced, iced on top, un-iced, jeweled etc - so that’s what they call them!

They’re all Christmas cakes. It’s just good to know what sort!

You will see cropped screen shots like the one on the left, which hide the detail seen on the right.

Don’t fall for it!

Step outside your front door and you will see Christmas is alive and well everywhere you go!

Oh, and it’s only NOVEMBER! 🤣

We all know we’ve entered the “they’re banning Christmas” season now poppy rage is over on social media.

But I didn’t expect actual newspapers would take the confected outrage by anonymous far-Right Twitter accounts and turn them into “news” stories!

But here we are in 2025🤷🏼‍♀️

21/
November 18, 2025 at 3:07 PM
Interesting, all the articles referred to a similar “outcry” in 2021.

But the only reference I can find to Tesco selling a 7ft tall “evergreen” tree in 2021 was a Sun article about it being a complete bargain!

No one was upset about the name back then!😆

20/
November 18, 2025 at 3:07 PM
The Daily Mail of course went for the full on ‘woke’ attack line while claiming that ALL of the Tesco Christmas trees had been renamed “evergreen trees”
🙄

19/
November 18, 2025 at 3:07 PM
Also by this point, Tesco had had to come out and explain what was glaringly obvious to anyone with more than 2 brain cells.

It was a description of the type of tree in the box as they had a range.

Calling them all “Christmas Tree” would have been a bit silly!

November 18, 2025 at 3:07 PM
By the time they published, they were able to quote other people in their story, including Sharron Davies - never knowingly right about anything and always quick to jump in a faux outrage bandwagon!

17/
November 18, 2025 at 3:07 PM
The Express made a strange choice in their photos to accompany their version.

They were the photos that actually showed the MERRY CHRISTMAS signage around the boxes! 🤷🏼‍♀️😆

Oops - someone needs to have a word with the pictures editor!

November 18, 2025 at 3:07 PM
The GB News article went big on quoting random Twitter accounts calling for a boycott of Tesco and claiming Tesco had “stolen Christmas”

Slightly awkwardly, those sat next to a link to an article about how the Tesco Christmas ad could “take the crown for best Christmas ad”🤣🤣🤣

15/
November 18, 2025 at 3:07 PM
They end with 5 examples from a 10 year period where a University called it a winter break or a town held a winter market!

It blows my mind how utterly determined they are to be offended.🤷🏼‍♀️

14/
November 18, 2025 at 3:07 PM
They do concede that *some* products still have Christmas in the name including trees (1,874 results come up when you search for Christmas tree), Christmas Tree tortillas! and Christmas puddings.

A search of their site for “Christmas” returns over 10,000 results! 👍🏼

13/
November 18, 2025 at 3:07 PM
And as for the “celebrate” Napkins not having Christmas in the name…

Are you kidding @telegraph.co.uk ??🙄

12/
November 18, 2025 at 3:07 PM
They felt this wasn’t “Christmassy” enough!

How dare they call them festive and not Christmas slices…

🙄 (sorry, I know I’m wearing out the eye roll emoji, but honestly what else can I do!?)

11/
November 18, 2025 at 3:07 PM
So, the “pre-lit LED twig-tree”?

I searched online for that and could only find ones that DID mention Christmas 🤷🏼‍♀️

But even if they didn’t, I have something very similar as a pretty decoration all year round! Why would Tesco limit themselves to selling them only at Christmas?

10/
November 18, 2025 at 3:07 PM
The Telegraph moved onto other products that DO NOT HAVE CHRISTMAS in their name!

It blows my mind that they used to call US snowflakes!🤣🤷🏼‍♀️

9/
November 18, 2025 at 3:07 PM
Then the Telegraph managed to stumble on the mind bogglingly obvious reality…

There are several different TYPES of tree within their luxury range and so the tree DESCRIPTION was written on the box.

They are all displayed in a MERRY CHRISTMAS labelled box

November 18, 2025 at 3:07 PM
Then we got these gems from Susan Hall:

"It's all this stupid nonsense about offending other people and other religions. Well, blow that. This is supposed to be a Christian country. We have Christmas. Let's celebrate it."

(How is she not embarrassed?!😳)

6/
November 18, 2025 at 3:07 PM
So, @telegraph.co.uk was off a strong start on the nonsense scale by having to admit the tree was being sold in their Christmas range while in the very next line saying it was being sold with “no reference to Christmas”!🙄

5/
November 18, 2025 at 3:07 PM
… silly me!

@telegraph.co.uk and @gbnewsonline.bsky.social published at the same time, then @dailymail.co.uk and Express later that day - all decided this was a “story” worth putting out there!

FML 🤦🏼‍♀️

4/
November 18, 2025 at 3:07 PM
While this story entirely predictably blew up on Twitter coming at the top of my “news” section, I didn’t expect it would spill out into the real world

Cos, come on, it’s the dumbest story out there. Anyone who ever visits Tesco or their website will know Christmas is alive and well!

But…

3/
November 18, 2025 at 3:07 PM
Susan Hall - Leader of the London Conservatives - shared it a few hours later with the words “No no no Tesco they are Christmas trees”

I mean she’s not wrong! They ARE Christmas trees and there’s not a person out there who doesn’t know that! 🤷🏼‍♀️

But we need the faux outrage, apparently!
