I describe Monsters & Myths as a 'zero-math' tabletop RPG. Low-math doesn't roll off the tongue the same. Yet as I compile the glossary for 2E I'm struck by how pesky math is. Walking the line between narrative & tactical is hard.

Wrapped up the 1st 5 play test/actual play sessions for the official Monsters & Myths 2E campaign. The #1 request was the inclusion of pets/animal companions or some kind of summoner/beast master Career Archetype.

GM Tip: Draw relationship maps for NPCs: who loves, hates, owes or knows whom. When players ask about connections, you'll have answers. These maps also reveal organic plot hooks you might have missed.

Math is pesky & gets everywhere, like sand. Zero math's a core design philosophy for Monsters & Myths as a system from the jump. But now I've fallen into a rabbit hole of unique builds for every possible Trait distribution. My head hurts but I can't look away. Send help.

I like having possibilities when playing RPGs because I think possibilities lend to high replay value. You need 6 Traits to build a viable Persona Profile in Monsters & Myths 2E. There are 21 unique Traits to choice from. This give you 79 unique Trait distributions.

One of the things that excites me about Monsters & Myths is how the deck of cards is used. E.g. I designed various tools that allow the GM & solo players to generate enemy tactics, social motivations, and environmental hazards by drawing a single card.

Monsters & Myths doesn't have classes. Instead I went with something called Career Archetypes. These are jobs/professions. Your choices make them mechanically distinct, depending on your Domain | Traits | Skills.

For me as a GM prepping for a session can really be a time sink. Only for my players to derail all my carefully laid plans. For Monsters & Myths 2E I designed some tools to make prep faster, & adapting to players' narrative wandering easier.

Reading back through all of my notes for Monsters & Myths 2E to make sure the terms are consistent. E.g. I want to make sure that when I say 'Giant Flying Centipedes' I don't sometimes say 'Flying Giant Centipedes'. Or just 'Centipedes'.

I think for TTRPGs supply exceeds attention, not demand. There's more free and PWYW content now than ever before. They are harder to find because $100k projects have outsized microphones that are boosted by algorithms built for money & math, not vibes.
Old man yelling at clouds moment... but I miss the vibe of 2010s #TTRPG scenes. Felt like small press. Lots of trading and PWYW and free stuff. Lots of blogs and energy.

It feels like once we started getting $100k+ Kickstarters all the scenes really started to change.

Awesome playtest/actual play for Monsters & Myths 2E last night🕺
The good: The first official adventure is NOT a neat 5-session mini adventure, but a proper extended campaign! 👏
The less-good: Forgot a rule & caused a Total Player Kill🤦
Because of that: Players discovered the time loop

The Domain Schema came about because I wanted 'magical abilities' to have a source or reason without hand-waving' i.e. where do abilities come from, their origin or source. At first, there were three Domains, originally I called them Body, Psionics, and Tech.
