Sad news, the Chartreuse du Mont-Dieu in the Ardennes, France, suffered a disastrous fire on Sunday. The Carthusian priory was founded in 1132, largely rebuilt during the 17th century, and dissolved during the French Revolution. It is a protected historic monument. #RuinedPrioryFriday

The ruins are massive as you can see in this aerial shot. The abbey is EH, but as I said they are currently closed for maintenance. The music college is in the 18th century house built in the nave.

The remains of Leiston Abbey in Suffolk. The ruined parts are open to the public (though not at the moment as it's being repaired), the non-ruined part is a music college. #RuinedPrioryFriday

The ruined church of Finchale Priory (near Durham, UK). The priory was the rest home for the monks of Durham Cathedral: they went there for holidays, when they were ill, or when the tedium of monastic life started to get to them. #RuinedPrioryFriday

Le Vampire, a bronze statue done in 1902-1903 by French sculptor Léonard Agathon (1841-1923). The models were a lady called Augustine and Cléo de Mérode. The work was sufficiently popular that a number of copies were made in different sizes.

Dragon from the Kennicott Bible, a Hebrew Bible MS made in A Coruña, Spain, in 1476 by Moses ibn Zabarah (writer) and Joseph ibn Hayyim (artist). The MS is now cared for in the Bodleian Library in Oxford.
