It's not like I can really recommend Le Sang des Bêtes; it's unsimulated slaughterhouse footage. But the directional philosophy influenced Lynch, among others. Violence doesn't end with death, the viewer doesn't get a break when a living being dies. It's not over. There's so much more horror after.

I know it's unfair to compare Terrifier to an immediately post-Holocaust slaughterhouse documentary but like... it really highlights the difference between truly abject violence and stylized violence porno. Franju understood how to fuck up a viewer without any mercy. It will stick with you forever.

Hot take: Franju's Le Sang des Bêtes is maybe the most effective horror film ever made, far surpassing any gross-out, shock value movie I've ever seen. Extreme violence is scary because of what happens after the act, and Franju doesn't let you look away. There's no humor in it. It's dispassionate.

A medication that completely prevents contracting HIV for 6 months is such a dream come true. Even though the injections were somewhat painful, I would recommend this to literally anyone. It's just too good to pass up.

These injections were both sharply painful and weirdly tingly, like harsh bee stings. I don't normally have any trouble with injections, but these may be some of the more painful ones I've ever gotten. That said, if I only have to put up with this once every 6 months it feels completely worth it.
