I don't think you can do the "well the technology is actually fine, those people are holding it wrong and you can't blame the tech for that" thing when the majority of users are "holding it wrong" and there's no way to stop them and there doesn't appear there will be any effort to stop them

I guess to be totally clear I am not asking people to be nicer to Gavin Newsom. I think he's a weasel. I'm just saying that you don't have to preface every post you make about everything he does with "although he is a weasel," or "since he is a weasel," especially since it's usually longer than that

I don't really like how people are interpreting this to mean that you should be more forgiving with your overall judgement. People will say "I reserve judgement" and then go on a long speech about purity tests and big tents. That's not reserving judgement that's just judging passive aggressively

Obviously the point of the story is to say hey buddy interesting question, I bet you give a different answer when you are the guy who needs help and not the guy deciding who to help, huh, but instead it's often interpreted as "here's how to tell who's really your neighbor"

A lot of Christians' takeaway from the Good Samaritan parable is - I am not joking - that some people are your neighbor and some aren't. A guy asks Jesus "who is my neighbor" and Jesus gives a detailed story which means it must have been a legitimate question so the answer is about how to tell

Nothing against "a bunch of friends talking about whatever pops into their head about some topic" podcasts because I'm sure some of those are great but it seems like that's just drowning out all the other formats now like structured edited deep dives, radio plays, and more creative formats

It's very unfortunate, because podcasts can be a really great format for some cool stuff, that anyone big that is funding them these days just sees the opportunity as a cheat code to get tv level relevance but cheaper and sloppier and more forgiving to half assing it the whole way through

among other things, a real bummer that podcasts have largely been homogenized into a worse version of daytime TV, just longform video featuring people who know nothing, talking about nothing, for way too long, but also they're ugly and the staging is boring

Although I get why you would say it if someone is up for election, like you want to say you're voting for him or not voting for him and why other people should do the same. But that's still narrowed to "I think he would make a good/bad president" not "My official judgement is he is Good/Bad"

I don't get why people twist themselves into pretzels to definitively say if someone is "good now" or "bad now" before discussing what they did now, like Gavin Newsom. Just say "what he just did is good" or "what he just did is bad," you don't have to enter a score for him, it's not a required field
