I believe his line was that hard disks should be a “disc” on the basis that talking about a “hard diskette” would be nonsense, but it might also have been the opposite.

It’s weird to think (as some people not yourself) that people at the time were not equally pedantic. I can provide a substantial archive of a man who owned a (semipro)zine in the early 1990s considering it vitally important whether “disc” or “disk” was the correct spelling (I can’t remember.)
