This is one of the most "American" places I've ever seen. It's like the Mall of America put through a blender and slapped with a logo of a beaver.

The acting CDC director has now approved ACIP recs allowing anyone 6 months+ to receive an updated Covid-19 shot after discussing w/ their provider. If you are on the fence about getting an updated shot, read my in-depth take on the evidence we've accumulated on these vaccines. #publichealth
Do additional COVID vaccines really help?
We've accumulated a lot of scientific evidence in the last few years.

🧪My PSA for the day. Colors are cool and flashy for publications but are not mandatory for figures. So if you're going to use them make sure to they are accessible for those of us who are color deficient/blind. Here's one of the many options to consult: www.animateyour.science/post/how-to-...

Serious question. How is using tariff funds (which were generated by Americans paying higher rates for imported goods) to pay off farmers not Socialism? Also, the farmers voted to increase the tariffs and deport their own work force. Why should I fix what they broke?

“.. there is the question of how the bond market will react to tariff revenue being redirected away from lowering the deficit.”

Going to be in the H'burg area on November 3? Come hear me talk about mosquitoes (not as vectors but as their own very cool animals with some amazing stories). I'm doing my Science Communication part. 🦟🧪

Dump says something outrageous: "Sorry, I've not seen/heard that so cannot comment".
Someone posts AI slop about how you can screw Federal workers more: "Yes, we have a laminated signed copy of that hung up in my office".

There are papers that tackle questions that dont need stats, but sounds like this was not one of those cases.

Are pen pals still a thing? I had two international pen pals in grade school (neither were ladies, not that there's anything wrong with that).

PhD Project Aims
•	Explore the microbiome composition of biocontrol insect/s and host plants collected from the field in their native range
•	Understand the impact of lab quarantine protocols, mass rearing, and release under conditions on insect microbiome and fecundity
•	Develop methods to preserve or supplement beneficial microbes to cultured insects
The successful candidate will be supervised by A/Prof Paul Cunningham, Dr Aimee McKinnon and Dr Francesco Martoni and Dr Raelene Kwong. With potential opportunities to travel internationally and collaborate with experts at the Bioeconomy Science Institute, New Zealand, this PhD will shape the future of biocontrol programs in Australia and internationally.

New paper! Former MS student Nate Dalhberg investigated some of the hypotheses for the apparent defense of Orthopodomyia signifera against Toxorhynchites. Short answer, it's complicated and we still have not solved it but have narrowed the field.🦟

Jesse Lazear died of yellow fever Sept. 25, 1900. Along with other research by the Yellow Fever Commission, his demonstration that yellow fever is transmitted by mosquitoes provided the basis for efforts to control this devastating disease.

From this you might predict convergence in color patterns in similar environments (e.g., high predator). Did you evaluate that? Be curious how much pattern is constrained by environmental vs. genetic forces.

The Dark Taxa film franchise is great. I liked the most recent release, Dark Taxa X: The Rise of Psocoptera, and Dark Taxa IV: The Fellowship of the Mymaridae, was good, however the banger is always going to be the original, Dark Taxa: Another $#@! Tiny Parasitica.

Imagine those conversations next week..."Billy, can I get all my worldly possessions back son?"
