ok so hear me out... right. The year is like, 2150 maybe. Shortly after we began putting AI into literally EvErYtHiNg, humans went extinct (no one was surprised.) Our self-repairing pots with AI-injected glazes have now become self-aware and have been evolving their forms independent of human functional needs. They develop their own dreams and culture, their own desires and beauty standards. After all, what is a handle if there is no hand to hold it, eh? (This is what I think about when I pot. It's sort of my thesis...) This ceramic vase fell in love with a turkeytail mushroom and they joined forms in holy matrimony. Small light brown vase with turkeytail mushrooms arcing out from the top and sides in rippled ridges like pleated collars edged in white. There's a soft sheen of lavender on the fungal growths, and the interior is pale blue with a light flecking of brown. The vase is lifted on 3 leaf-form wedges that overlap the body. All the rusty iron oxide I used completely burned out in the kiln, but I am still so very pleased with this piece. Thanks for reading the ALT!

Day 16: butterfly samurai

Tall ceramic vase, body is a mottled black/brown and the form is curvy with two small rounded ridges at the bottom topped with a spherical form. Three vertical, identical fins run the full length of the body, lifting it off the surface on pointed feet. The fins have organically curved edges and cutouts, and pointed spikes at the top echoing the feet, and somehow resembling both butterfly wings and a Klingon weapon. It could, in fact, very well be a Klingon ritual vessel of some kind. It is beautiful and dangerous. The fins are glazed in light blue and splotches allowing the golden buff/speckled brown clay body to show through.

Small ceramic pot, a bud vase perhaps-- coffee-brown body, with a waist dividing it into 2 bulbous forms. Three wing shapes extend outward, cut from slabs, a it butterfly-like, but with more curves, evenly spaced around the form. The wings are lightly glazed with splotchy pale blue and white, with brown speckles from the clay body showing through. It is elevated on three coiled spirals, a bit fiddle-head shaped and creamy white with brown speckles. This is the baby, tomorrow I will post the badass Mama pot.

Small lidded spherical ceramic jar, with a peg-lug on top to remove lid. Lid and body meet in a wavy line. The glaze is turquoise blue in the recesses and yellow on the raised bits. Sporadic clusters of red donut shapes embellish the body-- these are the "Spaghettios" from the title. I've been told it looks like an alien egg, and I totally get that. Curly wild grape twig in foreground for ambience.

Day 13: lichen handled vase

Dramatically lit stoneware vase. Hand-carved fans of lichen arc out from either side, casting a jagged and pierced shadow. The foot flares out with organic fluting at the base. The vase is a light golden tan with dark brown speckling and a bit of green washed in the recesses of the lichenform handles. Am proud of myself for finally showing some restraint in my glaze choices, but I think this piece would rather be matte.

I've been using Duolingo to learn Navajo for about a week. Was loving it, and then the audio samples stopped and... I don't know what to do with this. Make up my own pronunciations? ha. I thought "engobe" was in-go-BAY until last week.

Small turquoise ceramic bottle with black drips from back running down the sides. Bottle is poised on 4 little peg legs with one back leg raised as if in motion. Small neck is placed off center, further giving an animalistic appearance, and a few curly twigs from wild grape vines emerge from the neck.

Day 10: meteor crater tankard

Large, handled ceramic drinking vessel. Unusually shaped, with a flared pedestal foot and a two-tiered body, larger on top. Twig-style handle with double arches for a secure three-finger grip. Speckled brown, with a few areas of small craters. The inside is a deep, vibrant red, and carved impact lines trail down from the rim are also filled in red. In a non-apocalyptic endtimes world, a fantasy LARPer or D&D enthusiast would probably buy this.

Day 9: Loppy-handled lichen vessel

Bulbous, freeform, 3-tiered ceramic vessel, built from 3 wheel-thrown bowls. Two asymmetrical arms curl and twirl outward like vines. Hand-carved lichen appliques and carved texture decorate the piece. Three leaf-shaped feet lift it slightly from the wooden surface. The clay body is Laguna 606, Speckled buff, and the glaze is light washy green in places, over black underglaze that has been wiped off higher areas. Inside is green. The softest, most beautiful cat in the whole world deigns to descend from heaven like a gentle gray fog to inspect the pot and improve the photo exponentially. Behold, she is Maeve, and she's made of clouds and cotton candy.

Palm-sized lidded jar carved from a wheel-thrown closed form in shape of an owl. Body is a creamy white with brown speckles, Large eyes are turquoise blue with an organic outer shape resembling lichen. Beak and small claws are smoky gray. Lid has a small twig for a handle protruding from top of owl's head. Wings and tail not visible in this photo, but lil guy does have them.

Stoneware vessel, wheelthrown and altered to the form of a Purple Pitcher Plant, a carnivorous plant indigenous to the Carolinas and a few other eastern coastal states. Bulbous bottom rounds out and upward, gathers before flaring asymmetrically, like an upturned collar. A vertical fin ruffles down the short side. Inside glaze is a rich green, the outside is a vaguely bluish green. Speckles abound.

serious question: I have a bunch of @effinbirds.com postcards... would I get in trouble if I sent them to my (red state) Senators? Do I have to put my return address on them?

I know it won't accomplish anything, but neither would a respectful communication with these particular... men.

Day 6: Awkward Teenage Son

Built from three wheel-thrown forms stacked and joined into a single form, this piece stands a bit slumped with fat rolls at belly and a tilted rim. The splayed, sluggish foot and small, mug-sized handle add to the teenage boy personality of the piece. The glaze is a mottled brown on the handle side and the belly is lighter with greens, yellows and swirling blues. If this pot had hands, they would be shoved deep in pockets.

Tall ceramic bottle form with feminine waist and multiple short spikes protruding from the shoulder, somewhat resembling a crab shell. Bottom 2/3 glazed matte, mottled brown of Amaco's Temmoku. Upper shoulder and neck creamy-white and speckled brown Laguna Mushroom. Bottom of long handle is studio's matte turquoise. Close up of neck and shoulder of bottle, showing off the crab-like spikes, both defensive and decorative. Hint of turquoise shows from inside the gently spouted lip. Paired with the 6-Handled Bottle featured on Day 2 of my #20days, the Carcinized Bottle completes the iconic duo of the Power Lesbian Couple. They just look really awesome together and I think they should get married.

Tall pitcher, creamy white with brown speckles, multi-waisted curvy form, prominent spout, and 6 turquoise handles of various sizes in a column down one side like a stegasaurus almost. Wheel-thrown in pieces and joined/altered, Laguna 606 speckled buff clay fired at cone 5 with Laguna's Mushroom glaze on body and the studio matte turquoise on the handles and inside.
