Funimation definitely had plenty of anime fans working there, and those people are great, but the c-suite was never really tapped into the anime community the way crunchyroll used to be.

Today is probably the biggest day for the fall anime season/Preview Guide and things are...not looking great on rollout today for Crunchyroll.

Both MHA Final Season's first episode and the new season premiere for Spy Family are both up on Hulu. CR is 9 hrs late on MHA and it lacks EN subtitles

A lot of japanese leftists became disillusioned with communism in the late 60s and 70s due to violent clashes with the government and the activities of the Japanese Red Army, on top of general cold war anxieties. It's hard to say how much Tezuka believed in when he was a member.

Osamu Tezuka was heavily inspired by the works of Carl Barks, and unfortunately that included his depiction of black people. However that doesn’t reflect his politics. He was a card carrying communist - this is a political cartoon he drew about the Vietnam war for a Japanese communist newspaper.
