Analysis of a 14th-century brothel in Aalst, Belgium, suggests a three-month-old infant buried onsite was well cared for and likely died of disease, challenging assumptions of infanticide in such contexts. doi.org/g9k2jz

In 1998, excavations were conducted in advance of the construction of the Oude Vismarkt square in Aalst, Belgium. During excavations, archaeologists uncovered a 14th-century brothel.

Voor dit specifieke gebouw zijn er historische bronnen die bevestigen dat dit badhuis ook als bordeel in dienst was (zie artikel; zeker niet voor ieder badhuis het geval). Over syfilis: dit onderzoek staat los van het bordeel. De skeletpopulatie die hiervoor wordt bestudeerd dateert uit de 16e eeuw.
