This is not a feel-good story.
This will not get many likes.
This will not be shared by nonprofits.
This will not be quoted in academic circles.
This is an argument no one wants.

The Simulation of Sovereignty.
Read it anyway. open.substack.com/pub/mrw1zard

Geez that felt good.

Time to fade back into the internet.

Dan, I need you to stop talking about John Rambo like this. Please?

I tease @indigenia.bsky.social. It's because of how they are. Their importance spreads. Our families, segments, Indigenous Nation and the earth.

The work Dr. Twyla does is from a blueprint made with careful hands from thousands of years ago and it will reach far into every future. I am grateful.

What's happening with Indigenous health care?

Did you know Indigenous patients would receive more health care money if they were in prison? A new report shows how the U.S. government breaks promises to Indigenous and Alaska Natives. It's not just about money, it's about trust, respect, and survival

This story break downs the research. Indigenous american and Alaska Native patients are being shut out of care, research, and respect. The federal system is failing like usual. The research breaks it down with facts, history, and real solutions.

Why are Indigenous patients left out of cancer trials?

Indigenous american and Alaskan Natives face higher cancer rates than most. But they're almost never included in clinical trials: fewer chances for new treatments. The report explains how Native leaders are ignored and why that needs to change.

Writers Luke Boyce, Aaron B. Koontz, Ashley Park and consultant Jim Terry need to do better. Hire Indigenous writers. Respect tribal law. Stop using false ideas for drama. Native stories need real accuracy, not shortcuts that spread myths and misunderstandings
mr-wizard.bsky.social
Saying a Tribal Nation can take land away from a citizen if they leave is false. It makes Nations look bad and spreads myths. Indigenous Nations protect their citizens and their land. This plot point twists reality and gives viewers a wrong idea about Native communities/territories/sovereignty.
mr-wizard.bsky.social
Jim Terry, Ho-Chunk, was consult using His cultural capacity to advise writers. Land rights/Governments/Pan-Nativeness had no consult and the writers desperately need that in all media. Consultants only work if they have the experience to aid the creative process. Culture is not Indigenous Law.

The episode was written by Luke Boyce, Aaron B. Koontz, and Ashley Park. None of them are Indigenous. They wrote a story about a Native girl and Tribal territory. Accuracy matters. Writers making mistakes about Indigenous issues can spread real harm.

Revival episode 8 says a tribe can take a citizen's land if they leave. That is not true. Tribal governments cannot do that. Saying this spreads false ideas about Native territory and sovereignty. This is a major problem that needs to be called out and fixed if the show gets a season 2.
mr-wizard.bsky.social
Just jumped into a show called Revival. It's a Syfy show about a town in Wisconsin where the dead come back. Episode 8 has a missing Indigenous girl. The episode gets tribal territory, sovereignty & other things wrong. I'm going to break down the problems I have, who made it, and why it matters.

Natives love to share a good story...

Drought and climate change have pushed this River to a breaking point. As the american government and seven states debate who takes cuts, Indigenous Nations are demanding enforceable agreements. Their fight is about more than water, it's about sovereignty and survival.
mr-wizard.bsky.social
Some Nations still wait for their water rights to be finalized in court. Others have rights they can't use because they have no way to move the water. Pipes and pumps cost money which the federal government is slow to deliver, leaving these Indigenous communities hauling water like their ancestors.

Ome-hundred years ago states cut up the Colorado River into w/o Indigenous Nation consent or involvement. Today, only 30 Nations hold rights to a quarter of its flow. With the rules expire in 2026, Tribes want decision making power over the river's future. narf.org/tribal-inter...
Tribal Interests in the Future of the Colorado River - Native American Rights Fund
The Colorado River Basin is home to thirty federally recognized Tribal Nations, each with unique histories, cultures, and relationships to the Colorado River and its tributaries.

Spirit Lake filed a formal complaint. Cited treaty law and Oliphant v. Suquamish. County silent. The State responded only after tribal pressure. North Dakota has no decertification system.

Sovereignty is asserted.

It is never granted.

Carlson was charged with 13 counts on July 24th. Three felonies. Ten misdemeanors. Bond posted. Trial pending. He is no longer employed. His release conditions prohibit him from working in law enforcement or entering the Spirit Lake Nation. He's on lockdown from 8 pm to 7 am, everyday.
