A question from the GitHub fringe at #fosdem.

Do you count people who write detailed and useful bug report as contributors?

Would you list a bug reporter in your contributors / credits?

Why? Why not?

It only got down to -20C/-4F this morning (at about 7:30 AM).

And it’s about -19C/-3F now.

I wonder how fast my hot dog and soda (with refill) is going to freeze?

Trying out compiling ffmpeg with SVT-AV1 support, and I ran into some compile issues with the SlackBuild from 15.0 and current.

I needed to apply the following patches from SVT-AV1 3.1.2 to ffmpeg to get around a compile error:

libavcodec/libsvtav1.c:438:61: warning: passing argument 2 of […]

I went for an afternoon walk today. Found a front-wheel drive (FWD) delivery sprinter van stuck at an intersection. It took 3 of us to get it unstuck so it could pull into a driveway, back out and get out (and it barely made it out). Then had to push the FWD Accord that was waiting behind that […]

I am glad that I did not get any ice, but I am not cut out to shovel 30-40cm of snow.

I like this recipe from Melissa Clark’s _Dinner in One_ (p. 140), and I cook it regularly. I tend to add more tomato paste and garlic, and I did not use capers. This time I added a side of steamed jasmine rice. I forgot a side of fresh vegetables, but I will […]

@foodcrimes Following my recipe from before, I seasoned five bagels with a sesame, nigella and garlic mix. And then one poorly-shaped bagel with...

_furikake_

Yes, I boiled, then baked them.

This is probably an unintended behavior, but I was trying out Drupal CMS 2.0.0 release candidate in ddev.

1. Make a change in the code component editor
2. Publish changes
3. Try to make another change
4. A refresh button is displayed
5. Changes are lost […]

YouTube search is literally unusable now that they removed date sorting in search results.

I mean, Seriously?

The first thing I did after searching in YouTube was to sort by date. I have never used _any_ of the other filter options. Not even the facets that remove search results.

I did not find anything useful on niri’s GitHub issue queue or discussions, but eventually I did find a reddit (ugh) post that was somewhat similar about `org.freedesktop.impl.portal.Inhibit=none` needing to be added into my `/usr/share/xdg-desktop-portal/niri-portals.conf` file.

So far my […]

A collection of videos captured by the camera feeder of dark-eyed junco sparrow behavior including chirps and flight from the other day.

The Juncos visited again earlier this morning and yesterday. I read that they like to scavenge on the ground rather than from […]

New web site style fix for URLs beginning with `app.slack.com`:

button[data-qa="slackbot-ai-button"] {display: none;}

This is another reason not to use electron-based applications because than I would not be able to fix web sites.

I received a pleasant surprise this morning when I caught a bird of prey perched on the fence as I made a coffee mixed with cocoa and milk (the trip to japan got me back on coffee due to jet lag). It is a juvenile red-shouldered hawk.

> a […]

The first _real_ birbs have landed. The finches and sparrows have finally found the new feeder.

Some people dislike living in a split-level home because the neighbors can look inside from the window, but on the other hand you can also look outside at the neighbors.

I have not ripped CD audio in years, but I have several audio CDs that I had not backed up so here we are.

I think I used a GUI program the last time I did this in linux, but I stumbled my way through cdparanoia.

I still have one issue with niri that I have not been able to track down. It will randomly sleep (monitor off, wifi off) mere seconds (or minutes) after idle. It happened 3 times within 5 minutes with the last time freezing up the display resulting in a reboot.

I have a feeling that there is […]

> Additionally, if an object is addressed to the Public special collection, a server _MAY_ deliver that object to all known `sharedInbox` endpoints on the network.

On the other hand, I worry about it being too spammy […]

I really like how simply browsing GitHub now results in "Too many requests" error pages. Literally just clicking links on a web page.

How bad does your shit have to be to that you have to do this, Microsoft?

No, I do not want to sign in just to browse a web site.

I did not use enough cayenne pepper mixed in with the seed so the first visitor was my resident squirrel who happily sat in the feeder munching on seeds for an hour.

I did sprinkle some more and they only visited one more time, but the birbs haven’t discovered […]

Oh, hello, it wasn’t snowing when I landed 5 hours ago. I think I just got delayed _into_ a blizzard.

As a former coworker always reminded me,

After the short 3 hour red eye, which I uncomfortable slept in, I wandered to […]
