It was always so funny to hear British people gleefully describe how American chocolate can't be sold as such in the UK, but not realizing it's also prohibited the other way. We have different ways of defining the quality of goods, and profit seeking firms hit those standards, economics works!

This policy impacts the people most sidelined in the modern economy. Fighting for a few people who are being made to suffer is worthwhile. Many policies that impact 1% of the population each year are recognized as important: abortion, cancer diagnosis, people displaced by natural disasters, etc.

That £11.44 was the value until the end of March then automatically increased for April to £12.21 is partially my point. The fact that the US minimum wage hasn't updated since 2009 is a problem. In a federal system there can be a lot of focus on the national rules to level the playing field.

This might be a bit too far outside your wheelhouse unfortunately. The federal minimum wage only applies to about 1% of US workers and hasn't been increased in more than 16 years. If it had been pegged to CPI it would be almost $11 now. From 1975 would be $13. The UK NLW of £11.44 is $15.18

What is the preferred alternative in order to determe causality? DAGs? Any good summary of alternative approaches you would recommend?
