The tail engine. What to make of it and how did it looked like in real life.

Finished this Airfix 1:72 Spitfire Mk Vc and closing this thread. Did enjoy this build as many things went much better. Up to the stash next model kit ✈️

The pilot enjoys the last moments without canopy before forever being locked up in its cockpit.

The exhaust stubs are given a somewhat burnt copper colour. Ultra Matt Polyurethane varnish is applied, and now the pilot is strapped. Hope you are comfortable Sir / Ma'am.

Chipping, many ways to do that and to what extend? I keep it simple, just using a sponge.

Did the panel lines using heavily diluted Vallejo Model Color Black. Applied using a brush and a cotton bud. One can see a result.

All parts painted and gloss coated by now and ready to be weathered. I am going to use several Vallejo washes for that.

Some dry fitting and the pilot figure sitting on his plane before being glued in his cockpit chair forever.

Canopy time, what are we going to make of it?

What's it gonna be? 🤔 Silver I guess 😎

lucky you 🍀

At a fair I got some old pilot figures from model kits that were scrapped. This pilot figure might not be the best but it has the best fit for the model kit's pilot chair. Patching up the pilot as best as possible for his 2nd career.

And this it's gonna be, prop strike damage included 💥

Two spinners out-of-the-box. We have chosen the pointier one. Prop strike damage included 💥

The jet engine and its gondola. What kind of colours are we going to use?

Aviation museum Aviodrome (NL) has a same kind of pointier spinner on their Spitfire Mk.IX replica. The plane looks better with the pointier one so I am going to use that for my model kit. Thanks for sharing the image.

Well done 👏🏻 and your B-58 posts are a good source of inspiration for my model kit that has been on my shelf of doom ever since 1986 😳 Hope my model kit will be as good as yours.

All decals and stencils applied and set. The roundels at the plane's upper side went pale so I had to touch them up using some paint.

So I started the model kit with the chairs in the cockpit to begin with. Trying to paint a 1:144 cockpit interior is quite a challenge 🔬🔎🖌️👓

That B-58 with camo paint scheme and RAAF roundels looks very good and I think I will apply those roundels on my model kit 😎

(as I just bought a Royal Australian Air Force decal sheet, full of kangaroo roundels, bloody expensive 🤑 by the way).

Between the rainy ☔ autumn days ☁️ we have a single sunny 🔆 day today. The Spit with its decals and stencils in progress enjoying some desert-like sunshine.

A camo paint scheme like that would probably be given to the B-58 Hustler if it was sent to Vietnam but that never happened.

I'll be very interested if you apply that camo paint scheme to you model kit as I want to do the same with mine (if it ever leaves my shelf of doom 🙄).

Nice indeed. Your model kit starts looking somewhat like this one in the Aviodrome Aviation museum (NL). I have the Italeri model kit in my stash and once I start its build I want it to make it look like the F-104G in that museum.
