She was punished, not just for defending immigrants, but for disrespecting an insecure, toxic man, confirmed by Trump, the Toxic-Man/Baby-in-Chief when he justified the execution by saying she was “very radical,” “very violent,” & “highly disrespectful” toward law enforcement. 4/

Tragically, they didn’t account for the violent misogyny wrapped up in that little ball of hate & Renee paid with her life. This was nothing to do with ‘domestic terrorism’. 3/

They were there defending their neighbours, and they had every right not to be fearful. They were certainly angry, but they doing what a lot of us have done when confronted by overbearing, threatening, unthinking law enforcement - take the piss. 2/

Obsessing about age, homogenising generations, or dismissing people based on the years they’ve been on the planet is an awful culture, that just stunts the left and divides the movement. I can’t see the benefit in that, not if we really expect to build something powerful. (7/7)

Here’s the thing: young people can be as wrong about politics & make mistakes as much as older people. The right kind of political culture allows for the kind of open discussion that seeks out collective answers. (6/7)

I had my own ideas, but I didn’t think that I had some sort of special, privileged insight. A healthy left learns across ages & generations. There is not some inbuilt infallibility reserved for this or that age. (5/7)

It was about the youth surge under Corbynism, and I expressed concerns that there was developing a culture of generational divide at the heart of Momentum in particular, but more broadly within the Corbyn project. (2/7)
