Let me explain.
When I learned the culinary definition of "salad," (bits of food in a dressing/sauce of some sort) I realized that could apply to just about anything.
Thus, a hot dog is just a salad with an edible bowl.

Oh! Also: call a hot dog a salad and watch everyone lose their minds.
