It's the classic idea of the obligatory scene - so central to fiction, drama and film. Each genre has its own conventions, but reader/viewer expectations demand such a scene to satisfy our investment in the characters.

Scott's big moment at the end of episode 5 is a perfect example.

I was waiting for the bartender to pour out my ginger ale, and this woman on the barstool beside me exhaled a foul cloud of smoke that drifted into my face. 🙃

I doubt it is? I seriously considered complaining the manager but I didn't want to start my vacation with those vibes.
