My review of "Tron: Ares", which doesn't reach the heights of the first two movies, but there is still a decent amount of creativity and solid action sequences as the Grid and our world combine: www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ttse...

Me whenever I talk about the "Tron" franchise:
The character Marge Simpson from the animated television series "The Simpsons" holding a lightcycle from the 1982 film "Tron" with the caption "I just think they're neat!" underneath.

Having seen the movie now, I can confirm it is not a reboot, but a direct sequel to Tron: Legacy that does acknowledge the events and characters in that film.

Still crazy Disney looked at how much money Top Gun: Maverick made and went "eh, let's just give that guy a courtesy EP credit."

If I have learned anything these past two years, it's that instead of sitting down and having an adult conversation about how to resolve a problem, a lot of people prefer to just yell and name-call.
mrcoat.bsky.social
Seriously, Disney Adults will be the first to criticise Bob Iger when he says or does something stupid, like his comments during the 2023 writers strike.

And even when talking nostalgically about some parts of Eisner's tenure, we still remember him peeving off Roy Disney and Steve Jobs.

And what I really appreciate about "Luca" is that it was this story mostly about these two boys who want to win a Vespa. It had the kind of story that wouldn't be out of place in "Peanuts" or "Dennis the Menace" or other comics about children participating in child-like activities.

Watching "Turning Red", I couldn't help but think that so many of the things that made that movie delightfully unique within the Pixar catalogue and a great snapshot of the awkwardness of being a teenager would have been micro-managed and diluted under Lasseter's watch.
mrcoat.bsky.social
I also saw a comment today of someone saying that Pixar's current problems would be solved if Lasseter came back.

I notice whenever I see someone say that, they never follow it up with what they think of the movies he's produced at Skydance.

If a genie granted me a wish to change anything in modern filmmaking, I would wish for more lighting on sets. Seriously, why are productions so stingy with light bulbs nowadays? letterboxd.com/mrcoat/film/...

Although one character does show the flaws in the "firebomb a Wal-Mart" strategy and that blowing up buildings doesn't exactly solve problems, either.

Whenever I think of Paul Thomas Anderson, I think of two things:

- He's a really good filmmaker.
- There's a good chance he's seen "The Emoji Movie."

Assuming we're thinking of the same people, when one of them died in May, my reaction went from "oh, no" to "ew" reading his obituary.

What I find particularly bizarre about these AI videos claiming people are nostalgic for Wal-Mart in the 2000s is that the main thing I remember Wal-Mart being associated with back then was coming into towns and causing small businesses to go under. There was even a "South Park" episode about this.
toobigtofail.bsky.social
Why the fuck is going to WalMart part of people's nostalgia? "Remember going to the same mall you can go to right now if you feel like it?" Why can't people be nostalgic for parts of their lives that were actually interesting?

Also, the whole "Disney is funding the IDF" and other similar nonsense is because Disney gave $2 million to humanitarian organisations that provide medical aid to children in Israel and elsewhere in the region.

I believe they're also on the BDS list for, gasp, casting actors born in Israel.

And Aladdin didn't get one until 2004, while Beauty and the Beast and The Hunchback of Notre Dame arrived in 2002.

Disney really took their Vault policy seriously at the time, although Aladdin spending so long out-of-print after its initial VHS release is crazy in retrospect.

As I saw someone else point out a while ago, the people who would logically want another Tron movie are fans of Tron: Legacy, so it's weird that the next film doesn't focus on Sam and Quorra, two of the central characters of that sequel.

I'm still hoping they at least make some appearance.

I don't know why letterboxd doesn't have a picture up for Rod Daniel. The director of "Teen Wolf" and "Alley Cats Strike" doesn't deserve this disrespect.
