Minis is big and obvious - each player could have three thematic minis.
Many of the defenses could have minis - cameras, turrets, guards, etc. and this would improve UX vs storing cards under the tiles.

I have a few 1 v 1 games. Everdell Duo is good. War of the Ring. Hive. Wingspan Oceania. Carcassonne the Castle. I often play Azul, Harmonies, and Castle Ravenloft 1 v 1.
Odd question, but is going fully deluxe an option to go the other way? I'd pay $200-250 for a quality build.
