This looks great (though I think now sold out).

Sharing because more good things in the world please and also because it is an entire venue I have never heard of metres from my office.

Yeah - that good enough question is really on my mind at the moment. My sense (and this is why we need research!) was that if something is right most of the time, people are comfortable because the friction is so low. If something is more wrong than right, what is the signal that is offering trust?

Great @reutersinstitute.bsky.social research published today. This on the trust of AI generated search has surprised me. Way higher than I would have assumed.

Still striking that billions(?) of people are using search products where less than 50% of people think the first result is good.

Among those who have encountered AI answers, 50% say they trust them. Respondents emphasised their speed and convenience and the fact that AI aggregates vast amounts of information as reasons to trust them, although trust seems conditional.

Do you know what would be good news for fact checkers? Anyone who fancied going to the @fullfact.org website (the people who wrote the widely used fact check cited by lots of people here) and clicking the donate button. We are a tiny charity and your support helps.

The first thing we at @fullfact.org always ask people when they see something online is how does it make you feel? If it seems too good to be true, take a moment and consider if you should post it/say it on a prime time panel show

The Boring Fund will be open for applications in November.

If your small UK charity needs (up to) £200 to cover something boring like insurance or web hosting, take a look.

They welcome donations too.

The Guardian has a $320 facts jumper.

It's nice. A neat slogan.

I also work for a small charity who believes facts matter and has a donation page you can visit.

A screenshot of the Lingua Franca website. It shows a middle aged bearded man wearing a light grey crew neck top with the words 'facts are sacred' written on it in a mock hand written font. The price of $320 is shown below.

For so long we have asked people how does a claim make them feel (if it is too good to be true, it often is) but increasingly we have to ask how does the systematic disruption in the foundations of information make you feel as well.

The four pillars of disordered doubt:
Doubt the Evidence
Doubt the Source
Doubt the Process
Doubt the Claim
Each pillar corrodes truth validation in a different way, but together they build epistemic collapse.
