Who do you think is selling hunting licenses and managing the number available to the public? The states are outsourcing the job of population control to the public while also generating funds to use for conservation. I’m not a gun-nut and I love wildlife but I understand that hunting has a place.

Except that it is necessary. Humans have eradicated so many of deer’s natural predators, that we have to hunt them to prevent overpopulation. Overpopulation is bad for a variety of reasons including the possibility they eat all of the available food resources in their area and the entire herd dies.
