I think we know that ugliness can be a contagion — it can spread through a community and shock you with its pull on people. It’s tremendous to have a reminder that care for others can be that way too. You help, your neighbors see you help, then they help, and then it just becomes What We’re Doing.

My personal favorite is when it offers me a summary of my telephone sheet. I truly do not need a list of phone numbers summarized for me!

For me, optimism does not mean "everything will turn out okay." Optimism means "a solution exists, and my efforts matter."
Without this kind of optimism nothing gets done, and yeah, that's a guaranteed that things will *not* turn out okay.

To this day I’m still shocked at how many times that man worked in black-face. Even after others were saying, “Bing, maybe we can stop that”.
