Genuinely odd story from me this week, as I start off looking at a video promoting the "Ozempatch" herbal slimming product, before tracking down the "doctor" the ad says invented it... and finding his alter-egos.

But who is really to blame for all of this? Tune in to find out!

Azeen Ghorayshi at the NYT has moved on from going after trans people and is now pushing the leasing question that autism diagnoses are too common because of its expansion of it to a spectrum.

No shit I'm furious. I spent eleven years learning to write well about complex topics in ethical ways, often for criminally low rates, because I believe that work's important. It's deeply insulting to see a total dipshit get fabulously wealthy for telling the rich what they want to hear!

Nibiru and Planet Nine – have scientists found the home of the Annunaki? | Nick Garratt

Claims that we have found "Planet Nine" – and that it might be Niburu, home of the mystical Anunnaki – owe more to science fiction than to reality.

My latest, for The Skeptic: Beware the groups who use edge cases and social norms to curtail free speech

Charlie Kirk was a poster boy for a movement that pays lip service to the importance of free speech while bullying and intimidating critics into silence.

Can taking in polarised news sources help us navigate complex media stories? | Peter Dawson

Ground News promises to help us get to truth by accessing a wider set of viewpoints – but truth isn't always found at the mid-point of two extremes.

Skeptics with a K Episode #433

In the wake of the political violence in the US, Marsh asks why the self-appointed defenders of 'free speech' are so selective about whose speech they defend, and why skeptics should care about this important cause.

Why is Tesco’s free recipe magazine telling me about the health benefits of sea moss? | Alice Howarth

When even supermarket recipe magazines are leading with health tips about sea moss, we need to stop treating wellness claims as "content".

IMPORTANT 🧵

We've been seeing how RFK Jr & anti-vax lobby has been steadily and effectively reducing access to vaccines in the US.

But it could happen in UK too.

It's a threat worth considering given Malhotra's speech at Reform conf & big overlap between anti-vax and RW populsim.
