Relatedly, I was told recently not to be courteous to AI because it *costs more.* “Please” and “thank you” count as tokens that the AI must parse but gets you no closer to the answer. I…kinda hate that.

I keep asking this same question. The only answer I can come up with is, if there are never any penalties for their lawless behavior, then they can safely assume that NOTHING they do is illegal.
