I've been thinking about how best to summarise our Y7 SOW for department use. This updated document aims to 1) reduce cognitive load, 2) support non-specialists, 3) achieve consistency, 4) offer autonomy, 5) ensure sensible sequencing, 6) allow deep understanding.

8 years ago we stopped writing comments in pupils' books and moved to whole class feedback. Teacher workload and pupil outcomes improved dramatically as a result. We have never looked back.

Thinking about cognitive overload. Printed an old ‘tried and tested’ worksheet. Binned it and started again. Sometimes it takes a bit of time, thought and careful research to realise what a heap of rubbish your lesson resource is!
