On this cold winter’s day, some wonton noodle soup seemed like the best idea, especially after shoveling outside before it all froze. The filling inside is pork and shrimp, with some chopped bamboo shoots for texture. The soup is a pork bone broth made in an Instant Pot.

True, and I will continue to respect my students as human beings.
I did say earlier that I work in a place where I feel that I will be supported, and in that I am fortunate.

For a frigid winter night, what would be better than a spicy Korean Gamjatang (Pork bone soup). 🍽️🍜

Carolingians, civil war, power of women, collaboration and the historian’s craft. What better way to spend an evening to recharge after grades are done! 🗺️🗃️#historyteacher

I was fortunate to have visited the MLK, Jr. memorial a couple summers ago. Some say it wasn’t finished because our work towards equality&justice is not yet done, yet the quote between the two stones give me continued hope that we can get this done! How are you commemorating the MLK today? 🗺️🍎

Our meal last night - A bowl of Soba with karaage, drizzled with a sriracha mayo - simple yet elegant. I had two veggie sides (not pictured) of seaweed salad and sautéed spinach and greens. 🍽️🍜

It’s cold this morning, and I wanted a hot bowl of chawanmushi. It’s not as smooth or pretty as the ones I could get in Japan, but it tasted so good! Comfort food for breakfast 🍽️🍜

I did some digging in my closets at school, and found this nugget! The program was held in 2001 at Northeastern, when the World History Center was directed by Pat Manning. All my notes are inside too… it was probably one of the first AP Summer Institutes for the first year of AP World History.

Youngest daughter wanted kimchi fried rice for dinner. I made the egg (it’s sousvide pasteurized, so I made it extra runny)

Loved this book! Soon after reading it, we were in NYC and I sought out the African Burial Ground. I want to make it a goal to visit all the sites he writes about.

This was the best soup for a cold winter night! Potato Leek, with some bacon crumbles and parsley. Last of the potatoes left from our fall CSA. 🍜🍽️

In productive procrastination today, and fear of no more chili crisp to last through winter, my quarterly creation of chili crisp. My family won’t go back to jarred ones, even Lao Gan Ma which was a family favorite for years. 🍽️🍜

Has there been a lot of pushback of Clive being memorialized?
I went to London in a visit this summer and it was such an interesting collection of monuments. Statue of Sir Henry Havelock of the 1857 campaign of India in Trafalgar Square, but also of statue of Chilembwe who defied the British.

So, my friend who lives in Japan sent me this photo. It’s supposed to represent the snake for Year of the Snake, but it looks a whole lot more like an eel, doesn’t it?

Every plate of the 10 course was exquisite. You can order fewer courses… we just went all out because it was my birthday. A couple pics of the gardens below.

Not the traditional Christmas-y meal, but there’s nothing like freshly made Chinese dumplings. It’s usually a Lunar New Year fav, but w/ kids much older now, we aren’t always together for CNY.

I haven’t kept up with the newer publications, but I know Erika Lee and Christina Soontornvat have a new YA/MS version. Ask @historyfrog.bsky.social about it… she got her’s signed at #NCSS2024
