Welcome to the official Bluesky account for Mrs McNiven and P1N 2025-26, St Patrick's Primary School, Denny, Falkirk
We used number lines to practise subtraction ➖. We know to start on the first number in the calculation and jump down the line. The number lines helped us visualise the answers and understand the process better.

Today we worked together using Numicon to practise subtraction ➖. We used the Numicon pegs to take away the holes on the shapes, which helped us visualise the answers and understand the concept better.

P1 worked with Miss MacLeod on a “getting to know you” lesson! 🧩 Each child completed a puzzle piece with their favourite things and information about themselves. We then put them all together to show that we are all one big family. 💚

We are learning The Gingerbread Man 🍪🦊. We used colourful semantics to read the story and then began creating the first part of our story map 🗺️📖.

Through play and together time, our class is growing as readers 📖
We’re recognising letters, matching sounds and starting to blend them to read simple words.

Home learning for the next two weeks is in every pupil’s bag. This includes a formation sheet and the term’s home learning grid. If a folder wasn’t returned, a paper copy is in their bag. Please let me know if you need any support. 💚✏️

We are exploring coins! 💰 This week, our focus has been on making amounts up to 10p. Today, we played Fastest Finger to identify each coin, lots of fun and learning!

We enjoy having a turn on the Smartboard! Today we practised reading and writing some CVC words, focusing on down and around letters. ✏️☺️

I’ve popped another copy of each child’s Glow login into their bag. This is just to have at home in case it’s ever needed (for example, if school was affected by bad weather). Remote learning takes place on Teams through Glow. 💚✏️

We came into class today and someone had left a mess! 🕵️‍♂️ P1 used the clues to work out who it was:
I: “It says run, run!”
J: “Was it the abominable snowman?”
I: “It smells like ginger!”
M: “There’s a red story bag!”

In the bag, we found our new Talk 4 Writing text: The Gingerbread Man! 🦊🍪

PE was a huge hit today! 🧘‍♀️✨ We tried Cosmic Yoga – Sonic Yoga and the children had SO much fun. So many children queued up with paper and pencil for me to write the name so they could try it at home too! I promised I’d share the name on Bluesky 💚
