I feel so lucky - the unwritten rule where I live is, if there is no lit pumpkin you do not knock. This works brilliantly as only the people who want to get involved do and if you run out of sweets you just take your pumpkin in.

I'm in England and have made the 'brave' decision not to start phonics until week 3 🫣

In total agreement - part of the reason I am no longer at the school!

Having taught science in a school that introduced this (the rational being that it made the 'weaker teachers better') it did not suit me. People are not robots and it is very hard to follow someone else's thinking. Fine as a 'base/starting point' but not as the whole. Need flexibility.

As a parent of a 13 yr old (up North) their hairstyles are the same as when I started teaching 😂 (Mullets are out, big fringes are in). No facial hair.

I can't 'like this' it is too sad. As a parent it was the best part of the day, as a teacher( in an affluent area) I am increasingly saddened by parents NOT reading to their children. Children LOVE books.

Also, we have introduce AI generated fun prompts for their literacy books which has also worked wonders.

I found that a few girls were mark making consistently but others were not. As soon as we introduced drawing club it flipped and boys were regularly making comics or stories as it gave them confidence. I would say that staff need to make it fun too otherwise I imagine it would fail.

As a parent of 2 teens and past teacher of teens I can only say that I am regularly heartened by their acceptance of all - it's the 'oldies' who seem to have a problem. If this article reflects reality then I'm with you! Censorship of information is not OK.

We do - please feel free to ask away. I can only say that we love it - it has particularly impacted reluctant male mark makers in our setting. We are carrying into Yr1 it has been so successful. I feel you need to ensure it is fun - so pick texts carefully 😜
