The worst thing I read today is definitely “optimize for AI consumption." I doubt that really means poison pill.

Oh no. I've just deployed my first self-hosted Masto instance. A bit of a labor but it's a working prototype. I’ve got plans I'll share soon.

I forget this regularly, but sometimes it's best to admit defeat, quit, and start anew in the morning. Today is a start anew.

Is @pixelfed down? I’m only getting errors when I use the iOS app. @dansup ?

Subscriptions for Pitchfork? Sigh... A new premium commenting service that I don't want and oh, by the way, we're also paywalling our entire review archive. I cannot wait until internet media settles into more responsible and permanent business models that *hopefully* do not penalize long-term […]

Apple Music is such an unbelievable disaster of an app that seems to never be improved from OS update to OS update. The search sucks. Playlists are super wonky with sometimes I see song and sometimes I don’t. And the interface is hard to use. I wish Apple would see some value in experiencing […]

Very curious and unexpected. "Gourmet Magazine Is Back. It’s Not Exactly Sanctioned.” Hoping this is a valuable means of distribution and discourse but seems like a Herculean task […]

Folks~ I've started a new thing. It's intimidating, but I've been threatening to do this for a while. For now the shape is largely amorphous, but hoping with practice I'll find some grooves. If you are so inclined, please subscribe. Aiming to drop new long-form monthly with shorter pieces every […]

Oof, this one hurts https://cca.edu/about/vanderbilt-agreement. It is a critical time for art and design Colleges to remodel themselves for survival. I implore schools to embrace being smaller instead of grow grow grow. These are difficult times for teaching and learning, but also ripe for new […]

Vaccinated for flu and Covid this year. In 2 months span I’ve gotten both the flu and now Covid. I’m angry at the vaccines. But, it’s really the systematic government dismissal of research, strategy, and public data keeping that has brought us to this low point.

Last year's Anna von Hausswolff album ICONOCLASTS is bonkers in all the right ways. I continue to be amazed how introspective and huge it is all at once. Gets better with every listen. #music

Quite a mouthful of a name for the email "From" field: Consumer Indirect Beef Litigation Settlement Administrator. I may pass on this one.

A goal for 2026 is more movement; more motion. I have a weakness for affordable variable fonts and this scratches that itch very nicely… https://fonts.studiofeixen.ch/mov

Last day (officially) in the office for the year. Watching my desk mate grow to impossible size, I hope.

Friday surprisingly satisfying song selection: https://open.qobuz.com/track/50149553. Mike Nesmith never gets enough credit IMHO. #nowplaying

Remember when the internet wasn't awful? We can go back to that.

Some friends and I have released the Resonant Computing Manifesto: a call to bring back such a time, to see if we can bring back a world where technology works for us, rather than against us.

The Resonant Computing Manifesto
Technology should bring out the best in humanity, not the worst—a manifesto for resonant computing built on five principles that reject hyper-scale extraction for human flourishing.

I’m pleased to share that John Coltrane was my most listened to artist of 2025 on Apple Music. This is a bit of a surprise, although it really shouldn’t be.
