lots of lovely insight into his influences and his working relationships with his friends, my fav two below. insane that i got paid to listen to music + talk about it with one of my fav musicians for two hours lol
CB What's your favourite of her films? DB I like La Pointe Courte, which really affected the way that I thought about songs, weirdly. I'd been writing and I still do sometimes write songs with lots of 'l', zooming into the emotive. That film made me realise that it's important to be able to zoom out as well. It's focused on this relationship, then it cuts to the wider cultural context. That's something that is important to do always: thinking of society, remembering what humans have to go through, and balancing those two things. I think she does that really elegantly in that film. I love making song records with him. And he's recommended me amazing records. His favourite song is Janis lan, "Stars". I love the song, but I also love imagining Billy listening to it. CB I love when friends recommend a song and you get to know them a bit more by imagining their relationship to it. DB Definitely. Another one was Tierra Whack's album, he put it on once and he knew every single lyric. He's a big listener. I listen to stuff at his house quite a bit compared to mine. have a feeling I listen to too much talkSPORT [radio station]. When I'm working, the last thing I do is put a record on. But I just finished loads of stuff so I'm listening again. talkSPORT is constantly on in my flat though. I once forgot to turn it off when we were recording and I realised that we'd recorded loads of music with like, van adverts in the background.
