💔 This is Omar Hayek. He was a kind man, the sole provider for his family, & one who brought the highest level of professionalism to his work as an occupational therapist for @msf.ca.

This morning, Omar became our 14th colleague killed in an #Israeli attack.

Israel’s war on #Gaza has dragged on far too long. Over the past two years, Israeli forces have killed over 66,000 people, including 15 of our staff.

We call for an immediate and sustained ceasefire, an end to the siege and access for independent humanitarian aid at scale.

💔 (1/4) We've lost a juggernaut in @msf.ca. Abed El Hamid Qaradaya was a powerhouse with deep expertise in physiotherapy & occupational therapy.

Today marks 10 years since the bombing of the Kunduz trauma centre, #Afghanistan. We remember the 42 lives lost, including 14 MSF colleagues.

Since reopening in 2021, our teams have treated over 95,000 emergency patients. Hear how the new hospital is helping the community.

MSF strongly condemns the killing of Omar Hayek by Israeli forces this morning in #Gaza. Our thoughts are with his family and colleagues.

Omar is our fourteenth colleague to be killed in Gaza since the war started. We call yet again for an end to the genocide.

This morning, we delivered your voices to Parliament.

While we don’t have a response yet, we know this: Together, our voice is powerful. And we will continue to use our voice to demand real action from the Canadian government! #cdnpoli

Amid all the tough news, here’s a win:

Over 25k Canadians signed our petition calling the government to protect civilians, hospitals and aid workers in war zones like #DRC, #Gaza and #Sudan!

Thank you to everyone who added their voice. 📣

A maternity hospital should be a place of hope and new beginnings. Yet in Gaza, that hope is clouded by stress and uncertainty. Even amid an offensive, hospitals should be protected.

We call for an immediate end to the violence and for concrete measures to protect civilians.

During the attacks, which continued throughout most of the night, a pregnant patient went into labour. She delivered under extremely stressful conditions and experienced postpartum complications. Both mother and baby are now stable.

Due to the proximity of tanks to the hospital, medical staff decided to relocate patients to the basement for their safety. This decision prevented more patients receiving shrapnel injuries.

At the time of the impacts, inside Al-Helou hospital there were, among others, 12 newborns in neonatal intensive care units, five patients in internal medicine, two obstetric patients and 54 staff members, according to the Ministry of Health staff.

Last night, Al-Helou hospital in #Gaza City, supported by MSF, sustained severe collateral damage from nearby attacks. This came despite multiple assurances from Israeli forces that the hospital was not in danger.

🍁 I welcome Canada's decision to sign the Declaration for the Protection of Humanitarian Personnel. It reaffirms commitments to IHL & sends a strong message against attacks on humanitarian workers, medical facilities, and civilians. (1/3)

🚨 MSF FORCED TO SUSPEND ACTIVITIES IN GAZA CITY 🚨

Our clinics are now encircled by Israeli forces.

There are continued airstrikes & tanks advancing closer & closer to our healthcare facilities.

This is an intolerable level of risk for our @msf.ca staff.

I am outraged, and you should be, too.

We urge world leaders gathering at the UN General Assembly to end the genocide against Palestinians in #Gaza.

Our staff in Gaza are doing all they can to save lives while weapons of war continue to maim and kill Palestinians. Doctors can’t stop this genocide. World leaders can.

These rooms should be filled with newborn cries, the beeping of monitors, pregnant women being cared for, patients finding relief amid a genocide.

Instead, these rooms now stand empty because MSF was forced to evacuate our last functioning health facility in Gaza city.
