This #ChoiceWeek, we asked our donors why they support reproductive choice — here are some of their messages ✨

In the face of global attacks on reproductive rights, we're inspired by our community and how they stand for the right to choose.
Why did you decide to support reproductive choice? Every woman should be able to live their life exactly how they choose to and contraception is a vital part of that. Why did you decide to support reproductive choice? I remember the wonderful freedom from worry when the pill was available in the 1960s.
It transformed my life. Why did you decide to support reproductive choice? I used MSI to terminate a pregnancy a few years back and was blown away by how professional and kind all the staff were. If I didn't have that choice I would be living in poverty and likely as a single mother. Everyone should have the same options I did so they can decide when is the right time to properly support a baby. Why did you decide to support reproductive choice? Too many women are forced into compromising on their dreams.

🚨 The Trump administration is planning to expand the global gag rule to include US NGOs, UN organisations and foreign governments.

"This would be an insidious encroachment on sovereignty, pressuring governments to change their laws." — Beth Schlachter, MSI Senior Director of US External Relations

Breaking: the Trump administration is planning to expand the global gag rule — a policy designed to block global abortion access — in order to restrict funding for organisations who work on gender and DEI overseas.

"President Trump’s cuts to humanitarian assistance have hurt all kinds of people. But from what I see on the ground, those suffering the most are women and girls."

"Nobody benefits by this product being burned. It's an environmental disaster, it's a human rights disaster, it's just a catastrophe on every single level."

Sarah Shaw, MSI's associate director of advocacy, spoke to @npr.org about the Trump administration's plan to destroy $9.7m of contraceptives.
msichoices.org
Last week, the Trump administration told the New York Times that they will destroy $10 million of contraceptives, because they “no longer supply abortifacient birth control”.

The catch? There is no such thing as “abortifacient birth control.”

This is disinformation and must be called out.

🚨 Update: Yesterday @nytimes.com published that the US government had destroyed $9.7 million worth of USAID contraception.

Now, @nytimes.com reports that this was incorrect and the products are still being held in a warehouse in Belgium.

🚨 Breaking news: the Trump administration has destroyed $9.7 million of contraception that could have saved lives.

The dismantling of #USAID has already left millions of women struggling to access contraception, impacting their health and futures.

Our statement: www.msichoices.org/latest/msi-s...
Responding to the news that the US State Department has destroyed $9.7 million of USAID contraceptive supplies, Beth Schlachter, MSI’s Senior Director for US External Relations, said:

“The deliberate destruction of nearly $10 million worth of contraceptives, under the blatantly false pretence that they are abortifacients, is an outrageous act of cruelty.

“What makes this loss especially tragic is that it was entirely preventable. European governments and other organisations including my own had offered to distribute the contraceptives at no cost to the United States.

“This decision will cost lives, derail progress in global health, and strip millions of people of the basic tools they need to plan their families and protect their health.”
