Given the generally rotten state of things, I am somewhat comforted by the fact that Molly Parker has a TV show.

Victor Dkiam loved it so much, he bought the company! #deepcuts

You raise a worthy side-issue: why is it so unthinkable for outlets to kill bad pieces these days? If content is so cheap and plentiful, there is no reason why every piece of crap should get published. Sometimes articles don't work out, and should not be made public.

Is there actually any point in doing anything? I'm thinking not.

Do Gen-Alpha movie fanatics consider themselves to be “cinemaxing”?

Lest we forget, the man who killed Shinzo Abe had to make his own gun. That’s dedication.

As an artist, as an educator, as a parent. (I still recall Ken coming to Berkeley and using part of his time to screen KIRK & KERRY, Azazel’s first film. He was beaming with pride, a beautifully dorky dad.)

Ken Jacobs (1933-2025)

A great artist, a wonderful teacher, & speaking personally, a close friend for over 50 years. Linking to a piece I wrote to mark his 80th birthday.

4/ Having been victims of genocide imposes higher ethical requirements on Jews; it doesn’t release us from basic standards of humane behaviour in the interests of perpetuating survival.

Yes. It’s like we are watching a live demonstration of where the Delta blues came from and why.

I remember this year because for some reason the Academy invited Wonder, Parker, and Williams to perform, but not Collins or Loggins. I think they had maybe Ann Reinking perform “Against All Odds”?

Yeah, that's the horrifying part. The pay is really shitty, so most of these bigots are in it for love of the game.

People banging on about Tilly Norwood like Max Headroom never happened.

While I am certainly sympathetic to Raoul Peck's project, I am tempted to say that at this point "Orwellian" is a thought terminating cliche. Anyone who'd care already knows, and the designation in no way suggests what steps are needed to prevent it. (At the end of 1984, Big Brother has won.)
