The only thing anyone needs to know about Bari Weiss is that she first came to national attention trying to get a Middle East Studies professor at Columbia fired for anti-Israel views, and yet somehow huge amounts of the US media elite think she is committed to "free speech" and "heterodoxy."

On top of all this there's this entire section devoted to "Justice in the Trump Era" - he actually appended this to the end of his decision. Has any other judge ever done this? There's plenty not to like in the dicta - lots & lots of American exceptionalism - but the bulk of this is exceptional

And the most important sentence of all (I don't know if any other judicial decision has ever said this, but it's long over due): "If 'terrorist' is interpreted to mean 'pro-Palestine' or 'anti-Israel' and 'support' encompasses pure political speech, then core free speech rights have been imperiled"

Am reading Judge Young's decision in AAUP v. Rubio - a case about the government's ideological deportation policy against pro-Palestine non-citizens. There are just so many drop dead important lines. Here r a few: "ICE goes masked for a single reason -- to terrorize Americans into quiescence." /n

This decision will almost certainly be appealed but it is highly unlikely the Second Circuit will reverse this. The big question is the Supreme Court but I also can’t see it taking this up.

This would have further crippled the UN’s work, which has already been crippled by the US withdrawal of significant funding.

This decision is so important. A contrary conclusion would have been a major victory for the US, Israel, and their allies who hope to unravel the UN. To flout the well-established immunity rules would have exposed so many UN entities to suit in the US.

In her opinion, the federal judge clearly and concisely demonstrated why the plaintiffs and the Trump admins are out of their mind and why UNRWA and the defendant UN officials are absolutely immune under intl law.
