It is a great book. Students always respond well to it, and it's a platform for discussing so many different ideas about identity and community, and family, etc.

There are schools that ban books, and control what teachers teach and how they teach. So telling them they can't allow retakes is definitely a possibility.

I took it as do mandatory grading policies not allow you to do those things such as retakes.
