“Ice melt can burn dogs’ paws,” said [Angell veterinarian Dr. Susan O'Bell]. “You can buy pet-safe ice melt, but if you don’t have it or are walking your dog in areas beyond your home, consider using boots or other foot coverings.”

“People burn a lot of candles or scented oils during the holidays,” said [Angell Animal Medical Center's] Dr. Allukian. “The smoke can irritate your pet’s respiratory system and worsen any preexisting issues like asthma or tracheal issues.”

"There are a lot of misconceptions about adopting older dogs, like they can’t be playful or energetic," [MSPCA-Angell Project Manager Jamie Garabedian] said. "Likewise with bigger dogs, a lot of people assume they need hours of exercise a day, but all dogs are different."
