People were surprised to see one person campaigning where they were not expecting anything voter related. There were many surprised looks, but there were many people that asked questions. Some didn't know how to register, who was running and on and on.

Not that I disagree, but we who are better prepared need to do more.
I campaigned for Mamdani several days each week for 3 months. I didn't coordinate with the campaign, I just went to street fairs, outdoor gatherings and places where crowds gathered for an hour or two.
