(Bloomberg) -- Delcy Rodríguez, vice president of
Venezuela under Nicolás Maduro before his capture by US forces Saturday, has been sworn in as president and will work with the US to transition to a democratically elected government, President Donald Trump said.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio had a lengthy conversation with Rodríguez and she has agreed to help, Trump said in a news conference in Palm Beach, Florida. "She's essentially willing to do what we think is necessary to make Venezuela great again, very simple," he said.
The choice of Rodríguez as a partner would help the US ease a transition by maintaining the current institutions in Venezuela.
