Probably a little of everything. He's not as young as he used to be either.

Mtb and road seasons overlap too much and I imagine the training you need to do to be best of the best is dramatically different. This only makes what PFP did 2014-2015 more impressive. Even then, she didn't win road and MTB worlds in the same calendar year.

I would attribute it to number of hrs he's had on the bike over his lifetime. CX is probably second nature to him while the MTB skills atrophy without regular practice.

I'm hoping to thread the needle with both Traci and Keenan currently sick in the house.

Assuming I count every incarnation of my Orbea HT as one bike I've only done a CX race on three other bikes: said HT, a redline monocog and Keenan's Boone.

I always dismount unless they tell me I don't need to. I had someone once ask me to keep talking. They said a person on a bike doesn't look like a person to them(the horse) so they don't understand what they are seeing.
