keep saying this. outside of mn, when people hear “legal ovserver,” it evokes this idea of a group of superheroes swooping in to stand up for us. we need to reinforce the reality - these are everyday people trying to make it through the day and keep their communities safe.

lol in other sports/leagues that’s usually true. just not how it works in mlb. when a mlb (or more commonly milb) player signs internationally and comes back, it doesn’t contribute to service time or impact team control. the player is in pretty much the same situation as when they left.

they’ll be fine as long as they another 22 pts off turnovers in the second half too
January 30, 2026 at 3:47 AM
that’s not allowed while a player is under team control (first 7 years after being drafted). that’s why they call it “team control”
January 30, 2026 at 2:43 AM
in the first 7 years of a mlb player’s career, it’s for all intents and purposes impossible to negotiate a no-trade clause. the team would just go to arbitration if a player tried.

and to be clear, they would need to include butler as well. offloading his salary is necessary to keep the warriors under the second apron. i’m curious about how much appetite the bucks have for an injured player with a reputation as a toxic locker room presence.
January 29, 2026 at 10:16 PM
exactly. it’s not buying a person because the players don’t have rights. wait, when you put it that way…
January 29, 2026 at 9:51 PM
you’re going to be surprised to hear this, but curry’s contract is fully guaranteed through next season and the only restructuring allowed under the current cba is to buy out his contract and waive him (like what happened with beal and lillard). butler and giannis have similar contracts.
January 28, 2026 at 11:20 PM
that trade isn’t permitted under the current cba. the warriors need to salary match, so they’d need to dump an additional ~$10M of salary to make it legal, which is why i included hield.
January 28, 2026 at 8:43 PM
if they keep butler, warriors need to shed $55M of salary elsewhere to stay under the second apron. who are they going to get rid of? draymond + kuminga + hield + a few picks to facilitate the salary dump?

he’s still waiting for that happy ending
