Yes, "compute power" is an accurate term, whereas "computing power" is a mangle with no meaning. You don't "computing" a result, you "compute" it. It only started appearing as "computing power" when the marketdroids got ahold of the term.

It's (usually) missing the "n" because it's French.

According to the OED, "restauranteur" has been appearing in English (well, actually American) since the mid-1800's. But yes, the Standard spelling is restaurateur. While I didn't know that either, I don't recall ever typing it before now.

The first computer I used was an HP2000. Of course, we never went near the actual computer, which was downtown. We sat in front of a DECwriter II, which we connected to the HP2000 via a 300-baud acoustic-coupler modem. 16kb of memory, yet it supported up to 16 simultaneous (time-sharing) users.

While I'm amused at Bill's comment, I'll also point out that the army is very good at being rather bad at things they don't really want to be doing.

And in reality, for most people on e-bikes, it's not a question of "riding an e-bike" vs "riding a regular bike" - it's "riding an e-bike vs not riding any bike". So yeah, in that case, riding an e-bike is certainly more exercise than not riding.

While I'm not personally interested in an e-bike (I don't find riding around town grueling, and when I'm climbing up a canyon, I enjoy it), I'm fully in favor of them precisely due to PNH's post. Anything that gets more people on bikes, more often, for longer, is a good thing.

"electric bikes offer more exercise than pedal bikes on average."

No, they don't, it's not even close. Someone on a non-electric bike gets more exercise, even when they spend less time on the bike.

What Patrick quoted, on the other hand, is absolutely true.

What's boggled me for decades is that anyone actually took BMI seriously as a measure of individual obesity. It works for looking at populations (where it averages out), but we've known since at least the 1980s that the only valid way to look at an individual is via bodyfat percentage.

It should be noted that despite the "just asked", this was actually from his appearance on the "Fox Business" TV show, "Varney & Co," in March 2022.

Of course that doesn't make it any more coherent.
