"Nobody in US politics meets my arbitrary standard of 'left' so voting is useless" is a braindead take.

Its convenient for you, since any policy idea that could achieve popular support wouldn't be left enough for you so you can never be wrong. People like you aren't interested in solutions, though.
March 30, 2025 at 7:40 PM
Right of center. Lol. You are not a serious person.
March 30, 2025 at 5:03 PM
I find it really hard to take people who don't realize Biden just bent over for the left for 4 straight years seriously.
March 30, 2025 at 4:19 PM
Man people like you are as big a part of the problem as trump voters. How dare we *checks notes* let people build housing!? Let me add buzzwords, Reagan! Bro! Neolib!
March 30, 2025 at 4:18 PM
I don't think your take could be stupider if you tried.
March 30, 2025 at 4:15 PM
Nah. Morons like you need to be called out repeatedly.

For some reason you like having housing be unaffordable, so you hold up strawmen about paper factories because you like the intellectual depth to engage in the subject matter.

You are the reason Democrats lose elections.
March 27, 2025 at 7:42 PM
"Let's not build housing" is the bullshit argument.
March 27, 2025 at 7:35 PM
Seems like you're the loose cannon here. Fucking moron screaming into the void because you like losing elections.
March 27, 2025 at 7:28 PM
Oh you're a moron! Sorry for engaging.
March 27, 2025 at 7:25 PM
They don't want paper factories next to house. They don't want zoning that is exclusively single family detached home, because it artificially raises home prices and makes it impossible to build. At least engage with the arguments honestly.

Like I'm agreeing with the overall point here, that the institution will outlive Trump, in part because they're extremely well endowed and responsible with their funds.

Part of that means respecting donor's wishes so funds keep coming and not recklessly spending open funds.
March 20, 2025 at 12:12 AM
It's not even clear what you're arguing for here? It's not like they're saying they won't spend any endowment money to replace lost federal funding.

It's still a significant cut, because you can't just spend down an endowment without cutting something else.
March 20, 2025 at 12:07 AM
The university is older than the US, it will outlive an administration, a political movement, and potentially the US itself. It does that in part by not burning 10% of its discretionary endowment per year picking a fight with the president over women's swimming.
March 19, 2025 at 11:57 PM
The intent is not to spend down an endowment, but to fund programs off the interest. 5% return on $2b is $100m.
March 19, 2025 at 11:52 PM
Well I'm sure Penn's glad you are in charge of their endowment then.
March 19, 2025 at 11:50 PM
90% of Penns endowment is restricted. If you took all of the interest off the remaining 10% it's only half the size of the cut.
March 19, 2025 at 11:45 PM
About 10% unrestricted. So 4 years of fighting trump would be nearly half of their unrestricted endowment funds, if they stopped using it for anything else. As an expert, you surely understand the concept of an endowment is to not spend it down within a decade.

You just have to not let some little detail like that literally not being how endowments work get in your way.

Really frustrating condition of modern society that understanding how things work is a liability in a world where both ends of the political spectrum get to say whatever the fuck they want

Progressives voted for Gaza to be "cleaned out" so clearly the human rights atrocities weren't actually very important to them.
March 14, 2025 at 12:23 PM
The entirety of the last administration was capitulation to progressives on every single issue. Gaza would be the exception, but again the other side wants to "clean Gaza out" so when a relatively small group of progressives withhold voting in MI and she loses there, it matters.
March 14, 2025 at 12:20 PM
"Culture writers" don't work dude. I love the criticism of me participating in a conversation where you respond in milliseconds.
March 14, 2025 at 12:17 PM
I love how in your mind I'm the one who's incapable of accepting any criticism when I correctly pointed out you were full of shit about where current Ds are compared to 30 years ago you just insisted I was a bot.

Which also means in your mind you spent all night stewing about a computer.
March 14, 2025 at 12:12 PM
It wasn't a joke about genocide, it was accurately pointing out that progressives would rather not vote than to vote against someone who wanted to "clean Gaza out". But as usual, you'd rather dishonestly portray it for outrage bait.
March 14, 2025 at 12:10 PM
I'm not imagining the propaganda machine dude, progressives have tanked democratic politics because unless swing state and national Ds take politically toxic positions, the progressives will spend more time attacking them than the right. You are complicit.
