I am attempting to make a custom, formed, concrete hearth, for my basement fireplace (basically a small counter top).

Attempt 1 went just about as good as you'd expect for someone who has never done this before...

We will see how the finish comes out, but the pour was an absolute mess.

Reason number 1001 to love k3s and longhorn for an HA home lab setup:

I had a node with a corrupt etcd database. Alright, whatever, I'll rebuild the node, it needs a refresh anyways.

While rebuilding the node, ANOTHER node gets corrupt... The last node is not starting either...

To think I started my career in IT Support is crazy.

I honestly think though, most developers or sysadmins should spend some time at a help desk.

It helps motivate you to build more reliable systems and avoid any tickets 😂

It is always a fun time when you block internet access for a Fire Tablet, and watch it try to reach out 😂

They make great, offline, HA Dashboards

IF you cut them off from the internet, and use Fully Kiosk.

Me: "Why am I shivering right now?"

I have waited 15 years for Tron Ares, and it is just as cheesy as I expected lol

In all seriousness though, this series needed a reboot. To this day, Tron Legacy is one of my favorite movies.

Using an Amazon Fire tablet as a Home Assistant dashboard has it's flaws...

But it is times like this, where the HD 8 is only $50, when it makes sense to do this. Just picked up another.

Use Fully Kiosk Browser, keep the tablet offline, use fire toolbox to remove all the cruft, turn off lock […]

Wow. I wasn’t even using “Apple Intelligence”, turned it off, and suddenly my phone is 10x faster and doesn’t feel buggy anymore…

I was wondering why my phone was crawling after the latest update…

I thought AR glasses would be awful...

These are actually really cool and I can totally see taking these to work and using them instead of monitors.

I am going to attempt a concrete counter top for the fireplace in my basement...

I have seen others do it on YouTube and it comes out great!

If all goes well, I plan to do the same in my kitchen, which will be significantly less money than real stone or counter tops.

Also, this Cloudflare outage is yet another example of centralization at its finest.

Sure, I also use it, but I use it because I tried alternatives, and nothing gives the same feature set, especially when self-hosting something.

Based on the fact that my server is hosted on a residential […]

When companies get this big, threats of financial penalties no longer work...

We need actually legislation, not fines so low, that companies would rather pay the fine, then fix the issue.

NBD, this app just takes a Get Parameter and arbitrarily executes some JavaScipt... What could go wrong with that

Time to send out some nasty URLs that pop up alert boxes I guess...

Another great Crumb vid. Also, to his point, this was beyond insane when it happened. It was headline news for SOOOO long.

It is extremely difficult to boycott some of these companies. Especially where I live.

However, this is correct. You have to vote with your wallet.

Random thought while I was pumping gas today: what are we going to tell future generations when electric vehicles finally take off?

“Omg we had to drive all the way to a ‘gas station’ to fill a tank in our car…”

That’s assuming there won’t be gas in the future, or the world still exists 😂
