Zen monk sharing cloud and water notes on experience of experiencing.
Sokū (息)... To breathe... rest... to experience the natural pause 360°. It’s not an explicit intention or goal, however Zen training and practice, in my experience tends to influence our ability to pause and respond, rather than panic and react, in difficult or hard moments.

In my experience, zen is a very direct path. It’s thinking mind that inserts indirectness.

Zazen tastes its sweat.

Iyoi (愈) 一 to heal; a return to completeness, to wholeness.

Healing is not an escape from suffering, nor a project to repair what we imagine is broken. Often it is a leaning toward what hurts一without distraction, without story, without the demand一and a willingness to compost our experience.

What is zen? Freedom from giving our attention to mind’s narrative of suffering.

When we align our words and actions with the intention to love, we're not performing kindness or following a rule; we're recognizing something true about our authentic nature.

Identity passes through awareness like weather through seamless, unbroken sky. It never owns the space it moves through. It’s simply making temporary use of what is always free and available.

The most direct way I've found to stop thoughts from tailgating our life from behind is to open the hand of Attention. When Attention opens, thinking mind loses its outsized influence over us. We stop being pushed. We get to actually "Be here now."

What is the Matrix? It’s the system of thought that keeps authoring the identity you take to be so-called “you.”
And in truth… literally, not figuratively — it’s likely that identity may not exist at all.
