Literary analysis is 100% a lost skill at this point. Finding parallels to experiences you have had, be that mental illness, trauma, etc. in someone else's art or written work and sharing that is NOT the same thing as instituting the artist has had those same experiences.

There are PLENTY of things on this album that give me the ick, personally, but Opalite is not one of them and I think most of the people criticizing it are deliberately centering Travis and his life in the message when it's not really warranted

Hetlors and the general public are being deliberately obtuse listening to Opalite. It's okay to not like the song/album, but if you think she's shading anyone's ex in there you are just looking for a reason to be pissed. She LITERALLY says "my mama said". It's her mom talking to her.

I tried thinking about the timeline (written on tour, recorded in Sweden, announcing on New Heights, allegedly not knowing about proposal, but lyrics talking about knowing a rock’s coming, miming taking the ring off in video) and then my head exploded and I died dead.
