I’m close to his age and measles wasn’t common due to the MMR vaccine. It’s not something “everyone got”. He has to be thinking about something else.

I remember reading about mumps in books and thinking oh, how lucky, kids get a week off school. Nope, nearly eradicated by MMR vaccine.

Individually wrapped almond roca in a tin can was peak privilege and was strictly for holidays. Then I grew up and learned it’s simple to make at home. Still consider it a fancy candy though.

Phone books chained to public booth had city maps. I’d use a grid (example, D3 by F5) to find destination*

*can’t remember where grid numbers came from. Maybe phone book itself?

/hated scenes where movie star dramatically ripped map from phone book. Hey Mel Gibson I need that map, you jerk.

Gary had useful knowledge for Selina in Veep. Buster thought blue on a map meant land. Gary could successfully live an independent life. Buster would be dead in a week if unsupervised. Definitely, not the same character.

You ever read Griffin Dunne’s memoir Friday Afternoon Club? He has a chapter about the making of Chilly Scenes of Winter that’s interesting. He found producing the movie surprisingly easy only to get sabotaged by the studio marketing.
