I'll never regret making books a part of my children's birthdays, holidays, and weekday gifts. If they asked for a book, they got it. If they asked to go to the library, we went. If they wanted to read all day, it was allowed. If they stayed up late to finish the book, no effs given.

I was skeptical as I started reading this substance. However, your points are valid and thought out. Your improvements are as well. My belief is that this has to start on the local levels. These children need strong role mentors who have shared experiences so they can have shared outcomes.
