You can hate having lived during your childhood, never want to come back to it, yet still think the artistic movements were cool. Very negative and very positive sentiments should coexist. Life is nuanced enough like that, there's things about the present you might enjoy even if you hate your life.

And not parodies either. I mean like, genuine appreciation for the style yet nothing but contempt for the time period and the memories. I think when I see this kind of "stupid 80s were so fuuugly so funny" example of sentiment it's not really genuine, and very shallow.

I appreciate when people make their own little worlds of fun autism but I have a deathly grudge with my own brain. I think it's important when people make things critical of their own conditions. It doesn't help to pretend it doesn't suck or it doesn't hurt. A lot of my nostalgia is really bitter.

Cool aesthetics cool music fun games but nothing can fill the void of complete human disconnection. I'm not over it yet. The style was on point back then but my life was ruined by almost 30 years of social incompetence. I'm learning right now what I should have been learning 15 years ago.
