For illustration, this is the IFS chart I’m talking about. Look at how dismally tiny Labour’s bars are. And now we are where we are

Jessop is ex IEA but he does post clear charts. This 👇 is what happens when you fuss about government debt and don’t pump enough spending into the economy. This small decline was inevitable based on Labour’s ‘costed’ manifesto (highlighted by those tiny IFS charts). That’s what ‘costing’ does.

THERE IT IS.. leaving the ECHR is not just about foreigners.

It will be used by the radical right to go after groups they hate internally. Disabled people first in line according to clueless Kemi.

This is no surprise whatsoever.

‘Benefits Street’ for Tories

If only the UK government (of any stripe) spent as much time doing the low level grunt work (including opening up safe routes, talking to neighbours on the continent) as it did dreaming up how it can impose ever increasing cruelty on other people

More of Fraser Nelson speaking truth to the X cult.
By the way, they don’t like it!
October 26, 2025 at 8:56 AM
Interesting. There is a line of decency, and this ex Paul Staines flunky leaped right over it.
But noticeable how it affected him this much. That is a warning: you might be able to attract constant applause from the very worst scoundrels on X, but when it goes quiet, you have to live with yourself

No, the jump into the abyss started here, handing the country over to a spiteful entrenched Tory establishment which then smashed everything else up:

The real architect (Brown was just the latest owner boasting about the decor he didn’t choose):

Lots to unpack in this desperate Mail rant but what it really exposes is a terrific lack of confidence in its normal outlook.
The funniest aspect of all though is that it has chosen, as the inflection point to galvanise this Rightie ‘insurgency’, the defection to Reform of Nadine Dorries! 😂

It’s happening again. Wall to wall rightwing press lying backed by another dodgy report from a dodgy rightwing think tank.
The ECHR is explicit in the Belfast Agreement. It’s there in black and white. There is zero chance the UK govt pulling at it doesn’t destabilise the whole agreement

Neil is an absolute clown, a murdoch stooge at the BBC, tolerated there far too long

Not among your elderly readership, that’s for sure
May 23, 2025 at 6:12 AM
Yes I do think there is a pain-free button marked tax the rich, also borrowing. Winter Fuel Allowance cut has been very costly in its own way. Possibly losing Labour the next election - just 4 weeks into their term
May 22, 2025 at 7:31 AM
This is not only disgusting, not just intellectual cowardice, it is clearly identifiably wrong.

FFS - are they *still* trying to do a trade deal with that regime? Why pursue one in the first place? What a waste of time. And it is political rather than economic - Starmer/Reeves just want to wave something around in the face of Tories. They are as desperate, and therefore as weak, as Brexiteers

When it came down to it, to no one’s surprise whatsoever the Murdoch press were lickspittles to criminality and corruption
April 1, 2025 at 9:13 AM
That opposition to a European army for no reason whatsoever is the damage that having an untrammelled, lying rightwing press can do to your country
March 7, 2025 at 7:26 AM
This is a solid statesmanlike statement by Jenrick which flies in the face of his awful behaviour these past few years.
February 28, 2025 at 7:15 PM
This is grim. Imagine getting so twisted by your hate of a tiny minority you ignore the biggest most abundant risk of all to women because someone who may have been a boy at some point once won a medal in a female swimming race somewhere
February 9, 2025 at 7:51 AM
Lots of laughing at this. But look at the swift collapse of US institutions without any dissent and the rise of Reform here: he isn’t going to be wrong
